Our Mission
|
|
The Ruth Satzman Levy Religious School of the Jewish Center of
Venice promotes a quality Judaic studies program for a diverse
community of Jewish children. Our mission is to encourage
students toward a commitment to Jewish religious observance and
knowledge of the Hebrew language. We nurture them within a
dedication to the American Jewish community and to the State of
Israel.

Fee Structure
|
|
At least one parent must be a JCV member.
Costs for tuition, textbooks and materials are $230.00 per
child.

Class
Structure |
|
The school specializes in small classes with emphasis on
individualized instruction for the students whenever possible.
|
Classes are divided by age
|
|
Group 1 - Ages 4 1/2 to 7 years |

|
Group 2 - Ages 8 to 10 |
   |
|
Group 3 - Ages 11 to 13 |

|
School is in session on Sundays between the hours of 9:30AM
- 11:30 AM.
In addition all classes receive Hebrew instruction during the
Sunday school hours.
Tuesday afternoon Hebrew instruction from 4:30 - 5:30 PM. for
Bar/Bat Mitzvah candidates

Curriculum
|
|
Curriculum includes Jewish history, holiday, culture, music,
literature, Hebrew language, Jewish folklore and exploration
into Jewish identity. Furthermore, Hebrew classes are conducted
one afternoon each week for older children. Private Hebrew
instruction for students is available in preparation for Bar/Bat
Mitzvahs.

Family Events
|
|
Included in the schedule are parent meetings, Shabbat family
dinners followed by participation in congregational services, a
Chanukah party, a Purim carnival, and a model Seder. During the
high holidays there are services conducted especially for the
children.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah Requirements |
|
Each student is required to be enrolled in the school for at least two
years as well as to participate in additional Hebrew Studies.
Proficiency in Hebrew is determined by our Hebrew teacher. The student
is required to attend Friday night services for at least six months
prior to his/her Bar/Bat Mitzvah. One parent must be a member of the
JCV. A meeting with the school personnel will be scheduled to discuss
family responsibilities and other pertinent details

Parental
Involvement
|
|
Parent involvement is a key to the success of the program.
Parents are on the Education Committee of the JCV and are
expected to participate in the various special programs. Coffee
and conversation meetings are scheduled for the first Sunday of
each month. Such topics as Jewish ritual and culture, child
development and learning, communication with children and
similar areas of mutual interest are discussed. The school
directors and the Rabbi help lead the discussions.
